Novell Client

The Novell Client should be installed by experienced technical personnel only. Although the Novell client usually installs without incident, problems may occur with your system requiring advanced knowledge of the client software and UTSW network.

Pre configured for UTSW

Simply run the executable and the client will install with the appropriate settings for UTSW already configured.

Zipped Client

Zipped (non self extracting client). You must download and then extract the client locally before running. Provided for those experiencing problems running the preconfigured client above

Macintosh ClientNEW!

No client software is required for Macintosh OS 10.x workstations to access MEDNET volumes, as all user volumes support SMB/CIFS protocols.

How to make a SMB connection from a Macintosh

Select Connect to Server from GO menu on Macintosh. At the prompt type smb://ServerIPAddress/VolumeName (i.e. smb://199.165.152.102/data) and hit enter. (Note that " smb" must be in lower case only)

You will need to contact the IR Call Center at 87600 to request your Server IP Address and Volume Name to access your shared and personal data. This table can assist with IP addresses

You will be prompted for your Domain, Name and Password (Note user ID and passwords are case sensitive).

  1. Domain should be set to SWMEDNET by default
  2. Name is your SouthwesternID (SWID)
  3. Password is your SWID password

Once connected you will see the volume icon on your desktop. It can be used like any Macintosh drive now.

You can then go back to connect screen and save this IP Address by selecting GO - Connect to Server and click the (+) plus symbol to add this IP address to the list below.

Groupwise Client

WARNING: Do not install the Groupwise client software on a PC where the Outlook full client (not Outlook Express) is installed and used for accessing an email account other than UTSW Groupwise mail. Advanced configuration is needed for the two to coexist on the same PC. Note that Outlook is not a supported application at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
